Thank you so much for reading and responding. It saddens me you don't see the tragedy in your daughter's story. The point of this essay--and everything I write about adoption--is to illustrate its duality, how tragedy and beauty, acceptance and rejection, fear and safety, love and loss, can coexist in adoptees' lives. I hope you can make space to see that. It's not a reflection of your parenting or comment on the quality of your relationship or a measure of your daughter's love for you. It is simply the nature of adoption.
