Thank you so much for this beautiful and honest response. I love the metaphor of adoption as a chronic illness: it's there, it can be managed and healed. Ignore it at your peril, perhaps. I have an amazing life. Incredible, intimate relationships, a lot of love and support. But the work on my wounds is a lifelong journey, and I think that's so for many adoptees. As I've written before, I see it as having a cracked foundation, the whole structure is more solid when the foundation is patched as best as possible.
